- The November 2023 Calendar of Events for this years SRC's sponsored Science and Technology Month has been released
- 23rd CAS General Meeting, Trinidad, 24-25 November 2023
- Created in 2023, the L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents Caribbean for
Women in Science program is committed to supporting the involvement of
young women in scientific research and scientific careers.
This program identifies and rewards brilliant young women researchers in
life and environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer and
information sciences, engineering sciences and technology.

- CASJ mourns the loss of CAS Fellow Gerald Cecil Lalor arguably the most eminent Caribbean scientist.
- Commonwealth Chemistry approved CASJ as their local member society on 20th April 2021
- The Virtual IUPAC Global Women's Breakfast was held at 7AM on the 9th February 2020.
Over 50 people from the region joined the discussion
- A Food Safety Newsletter was another
of the inspirations of Prof Dasgupta and he was able to
enlist the help of Dr Andrea Goldson-Barnaby to act as Editor for the new endeavour.
The first issue was released on the 1st August 2020
- Professor Emeritus Tara Prasad Dasgupta, a Former President of CAS and founding President of CAS,J
passed away on the 20th April 2020.

"The Bee Industry - Threats and Challenges"

-a lively audience of around 80 posed questions during the discussion period. The
presentations have been made available by the speakers.
- The Caribbean Academy of Science, Jamaica expresses condolences on the
passing of former President Nelson Mandela (Madiba) on Thursday 5 December 2013.
Mr Mandela will forever be remembered as the iconic leader of the struggle against
apartheid and as a father to the South African nation.
- Profs Dasgupta and Lancashire attended the IUPAC GA/Congress held
8th - 16th August 2013 in Istanbul Turkey.
CAS-J is the official NAO for IUPAC in Jamaica.
- CAS, Jamaica extends congratulations to Prof Tara Dasgupta on his
Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD) from the Government of
Jamaica. The award for his "significant contribution to Science, Education
and Research" was announced at the 2013 Jamaica National and
Honours Awards Independence celebrations.
- CAS-J/UWI project on Zero Energy/
Energy Plus Building launched on the 2nd July 2013.
- CAS, Jamaica hosted a lecture presentation by Prof Anthony Clayton on
"Future Earth - the new science and technology alliance for global sustainability"

- CAS, Jamaica presented a Panel Discussion on 29th May 2013 in the
C5 lecture theatre (UWI Campus) on "Climate Change Education in
Jamaica: Integrated or Insignificant". The panelists were: Dr Barbara Carby,
Director of the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (DRRC) and Prof Ian Boxhill,
Carlton Alexander Professor of Management and Director of the Centre for
Tourism and Policy Research. The Moderator was Tracy-Ann Hyman from the
Climate Studies Group at UWI, Mona.
- CAS, Jamaica hosted a Presentation by
Dr. Raymond McEachin "Mathematics Education in the Caribbean: Somebody Ought
to do Something", Thursday, March 7, 2013 @ 2:30 p.m.,
Mathematics Lecture Theatre M3, The University of the West Indies, Mona.
- A follow-up workshop sponsored by UNESCO on deposition of material in
the DSpace repository http://www.okcarib.net was held on the 22nd
November 2012 at the Chemistry Resource Centre. Once again, stakeholders were
asked to bring sample papers for submission (in electronic form).
- A training workshop sponsored by UNESCO on deposition of material in
the DSpace repository http://www.okcarib.net was held on the 13th
December 2011 at the Chemistry Resource Centre. Stakeholders were asked to
bring at least 3 papers for submission (in electronic form).
- An
IAP/CAS workshop was held at the Courtleigh Hotel on Dec 5-6, 2011
continuing on the theme of Open Access and Open Knowledge Environments"
- The Scientific Research Council (SRC) has been spearheading a number
of activities in celebrating November as Science and Technology Month.
The final event that is being staged in collaboration with their partners
the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) and the Bureau of Standards
Jamaica (BSJ) will take the form of a Public Forum entitled
"Innovate or Die".
This will take place on Tuesday November 29 2011 at Ballroom # 3,
Wyndham Kingston Hotel, New Kingston and will begin at 5:30 pm.
- CAS, Jamaica Limited held its first General Meeting on
November 17, 2011 at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus
in Maths Lecture Theatre, M3 at 2PM
The key note speaker was Garth Baker, Director of Research,
Caribbean Institute for the Mathematical Sciences.
"Emerging Roles for the Mathematical Sciences in Development"
About 30 people were in attendance.
- CAS, Jamaica Limited has held several Board of Director meetings
- CAS, Jamaica Limited was legally incorporated in Jamaica and applied
to have the limited removed and for tax free status.
- A second meeting under the project "IAP Program on Digital Knowledge
Resources and Infrastructure in Developing Countries
Technical Meeting on Open Access and Dissemination of Scientific Information in
Central America and the Caribbean" was held on the 18th and 19th
January 2011 in Kingston, Jamaica at the Courtleigh Hotel. For more details

- The Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS) Jamaica Chapter, held
its 21st General Meeting on January 13, 2011 at 2:30 pm, Chemistry Lecture
Theatre-C5, the University of the West Indies, Mona..
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot (Lecturer - Department of
Chemistry, UWI, Mona) - made a presentation on the Young Scientists
Ambassador Program (YSAP) and the Young Scientists Volunteer Program (YSVP).
- The Steering Committee of the InterAcademies Panel Program on
Digital Knowledge Resources and Infrastructure in Developing Countries
met in Montego Bay, Jamaica during 12-15th May, 2010 and a statement on
"Building the CyberInfrastructure for 21st Century e-Science in Central
America and the Caribbean" was prepared. A copy of the

- The Jamaican Chapter of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS)
held its 20th General Meeting on Friday,
January 15, 2010 @ 2:30 pm, Chemistry Lecture Theatre-C5, The

Keynote speaker Dr. Michael Taylor - CAS Young Scientist Awardee 2008

- The Jamaican Chapter of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS)
held its 19th General Meeting on Thursday,
September 17, 2009 @ 2:30 pm, Chemistry Lecture Theatre-C5, The

"Graduate Studies in the Caribbean: Where are we going?"

- The 1st Caribbean Conference on Information and Communications Technology (CCICT
2009), organized by the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS) in collaboration with the
University of the West Indies (UWI), is an international conference on Information and
Communications Technology Research.
The theme of this conference
was "Advances in ICT in Developing Countries - Research,
Applications and Policies: A view from the Caribbean". The conference was held at
the Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI,
Mona Campus, Kingston, Jamaica, Monday March 16 - Tuesday March 17, 2009.

- The 17th General Meeting of the Jamaica Chapter was held on
the 20th November 2008 in Chemistry Lecture Theatre 5:30 at the Mona
Campus of UWI.
The Keynote Speaker was Professor Ronald Young, Pro Vice Chancellor
(Graduate Studies), UWI, Mona and who was recently elected a Fellow
of CAS. His talk was entitled "From Crabs to Consciousness".
- The CAS 16th General Meeting was
held in Grenada 10th-13th October 2008. This was
hosted by the Government of Grenada and The Trinidad Chapter of
the Academy.
- The 16th General Meeting of the Jamaica Chapter was held at
2:30 PM on the 17th April 2008 in Chemistry Lecture Theatre 5
at the Mona Campus of UWI.
The keynote address titled: "Biodiversity and Extinction in the
Brave New Ocean" was delivered by Professor Jeremy Jackson,
William E. and Mary B. Ritter Professor of Oceanography, Scripps
Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla, California, U. S. A.
- The 15th General Meeting of the Jamaica Chapter was held on
the 18th December 2007 in Chemistry Lecture Theatre 5 at the Mona
Campus of UWI.
- The 14th General Meeting of the
Jamaica Chapter was held on the 15th November 2007 in
